Artist statement: Lilacs Out Of The Dead Land
Lilacs Out Of The Dead Land explores themes and concepts from literature, especially from the work of Flannery O’Connor and T. S. Eliot. Modern man exists in a material and technical world, separate from nature and cut off from the spiritual energy that surrounds him. Children and animals are closer to this primal energy. My portraits of children and animals communicate through feelings rather than language, and they appeal to the spirit rather than to the intellect. This project is still in process, and I am adding images as I complete them.
